RE-assurance

As I was mulling over ideas for this week's blog, an idea came, ....and went just as fast!
But as I was doing my devotional reading this morning, I knew what I was to write about today.
.

For this to be the Scripture today!
Today, actually, I was reading it almost to the hour...of my sister passing three years ago.
πŸ“–And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.

Then it occurred to me that this rolls right off last week's blog... and assurance!
But maybe more RE-assurance!
Then, as I looked up John 14 for the reference in my reading I realized that it was the same scripture used during church yesterday!

πŸ“– Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. 11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves. 12 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.

RE- assurance
We have the assurance that those who believe will be with Christ one day. No more sorrow, no more pain.

One of the songs we sang yesterday was "I Will Rise" by Chris Tomlin.
Chorus:
And I will rise when He calls my nameNo more sorrow, no more painI will rise on eagles' wingsBefore my God fall on my kneesAnd riseI will rise

RE-assurance

Just a week or two before she died, my sister and I talked about the Mercy Me song "I Can Only Imagine".  She wanted it played at her funeral and she mused about what she would do when that moment arrived.
I can only imagineWhat it will be likeWhen I walk by Your sideI can only imagineWhat my eyes would seeWhen Your face is before meI can only imagineYeah
Surrounded by Your gloryWhat will my heart feel? Will I dance for You JesusOr in awe of You be still? Will I stand in Your presenceOr to my knees, will I fall? Will I sing hallelujah? Will I be able to speak at all?I can only imagineI can only imagine

Whenever I hear that song I think of her, I always will. This past November we had the privilege of hearing Mercy Me sing it live and I was reminded of a dream I had shortly after Leah had passed....she was on her knees in a grand, large sanctuary (wearing a  brightly colored beautiful jacket of course😘).
"To my knees will I fall"

And as I was writing this my daughter's were posting memories of their Aunt Leah and didn't one of them use "I Can Only Imagine" ...laughter and tears all rolled together!

RE-assurance.

I have assurance that I will be in my
Saviors presence when my time comes.
We are blessed when we can feel the assurance that the ones we love are in His presence as well.♥️

πŸ™Dear Lord I pray that all who read this have the assurance of salvation and know that they will rise and spend eternity with You, no more sorrow, no more pain.  I am so thankful for the RE-assurances you give to me and to others, Amen♥️

🎡 I Can Only Imagine.   Mercy Me

PS. just another "thing" about today. The devotion was about bringing a new dog home, and as I was finishing this blog up I was spending part of the day supporting my sister-in-law as one of her pups was at the end of it's life. 😒♥️

Insurance vs Assurance

Insurance is something you have (and in most cases purchase) just incase something bad and unforseen happens. But you can almost never have complete coverage...because even with enough money, there are some losses money can't replace or compensate for.

Back when I was young (way back!) I have a memory of "Bible tracts" and in my memory they were scary. They used images of death and Hell to scare people into making a decision for Christ.

I heard people comment that they were just wanting "fire insurance ".  They were making a decision out of fear, not necessarily a heart change or relationship with their Savior.

Assurance is what you have when you are certain of what is going to happen...and you are prepared. You know what the outcome will be!

πŸ“– Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen Hebrews 11:1 (ESV)

πŸ“– He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God. 1 John 6:12-13 (NKJV)

πŸ“– Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, and having a High Priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Hebrews 10:19-22 (NKJV)

πŸ“– For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit and in much assurance, as you know what kind of men we were among you for your sake. 1 Thessalonians 1:5 (NKJV)

And assurance isn't something YOU have to purchase...it was purchased FOR you!  Once, for all!

πŸ“– so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him. Hebrews 9:28 (NIV)

πŸ“– The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. Romans 6:10 (NIV)

My prayer;
πŸ™
πŸ“– that [your] hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, and attaining to all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God,  both of the Father and of Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.  Colossians 2:2-3. (NKJV)
I pray you have ASSURANCE rather than insurance.  ❤️

I Will Serve

In the message yesterday at church Ronald Reagan's inaugural speech was referenced, in particular "A Soldiers Pledge".
Words found written in the diary of a young Martin Treptow, who gave his life serving our country in WWI.

“America must win this war. Therefore, I will work, I will save, I will sacrifice, I will endure, I will fight cheerfully and do my utmost,
as if the issue of the whole struggle depended on me alone.”

Which was so apropos as the following day, today, is celebrated as Martin Luther King Jr Service Day.
It immediately brought to mind several of Dr. King's quotes.
Martin Luther King Jr. once said: “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: ‘What are you doing for others?’”     (https://cl.usembassy.gov/honoring-martin-luther-king-jr-day-serve-others/)

"Everybody can be great...
because anybody can serve.
You don't have to have
a college degree to serve.
You don't have to make
your subject and verb
agree to serve. You
only need a heart full
of grace. A soul
generated by love."
--Dr. Martin Luther King  (FindYourExcuses.com)

As believers and followers of Jesus Christ we are called to serve.

πŸ“– You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.  For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.' If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other Galatians 5:13-15

πŸ“– Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people,  Galatians 6:7

πŸ™I pray that each one of us makes the effort to work, to save, to sacrifice, to endure as we serve Jesus our Savior!
Not just today but every day♥️

The Right Reference

I was doing my devotion and reading this morning and had a heck of a time finding the correct scripture reference.  1 Kings 10:11-18
First, I read through the whole chapter of 1 Kings 10.  Hmmmm... nothing about Elijah.
Occasionally, there is a misprint... maybe it is 2 Kings 10.
Read through the key verses. Still not right!
?????
Then I realized I had misread...chapter 19!  NOT 10!
Started reading again...still wasn't right.
I was still in 2nd Kings!
1 Kings 19:11-18!
Finally found where I was supposed to read!
God asking Elijah a question.
It made me think...
How important it is to have our reference points correct for some things to make more sense or be clearer.
All of Scripture is good and useful.
πŸ“–  All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17
But the verses I was reading to accompany the devotion made more sense with the correct ones.
We have access to the whole Bible, God's Holy Word. As we move through our day, our life, let that be our reference.
It is packed full of truths and give us the reference we need to make things clearer, to better understand our direction or maybe even situation.

When we have trials
πŸ“– Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything James 1:2-4
When we are sad or discouraged
πŸ“– In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence. I ask you, therefore, not to be discouraged because of my sufferings for you, which are your glory Ephesians 3:12-13
When we are tempted
πŸ“– No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:13
When we are anxious, stressed
πŸ“– Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

And much much more!

That is why I like to do devotions and read in the morning...to give me a reference point for the day. Gives my day context.
πŸ“– In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice;
in the morning I lay my requests before you
    and wait expectantly.Psalm 5:3

πŸ™Dear Lord, I pray that we each find our reference  point in You each day. Help us to be ever mindful of where our perspective comes from.♥️

Why A Baby?

I had thought I should do something relevant to the New Year, " More in 2024" or something along those lines....but this thought just won't leave me.
Why a Baby?, why the time frame in which He was born? I am speaking about Jesus of course.

Why the time?...I believe that God's timing is perfect!  but also, there wouldn't be another Mary or Joseph. The two people to hear from God's Messengers and listen. Those specific Shepherds that would also see and hear a message and not pass it off as some strange fluke or refuse to follow the command to "go and see this baby"
πŸ“–  And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.  Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.  This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.” So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child,  and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.  But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.  The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told. Luke 2:8-20

Those specific learned men who studied the stars, who gave up at least a couple years of their lives to go and see this child.
πŸ“– When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. Matthew 2:10-11

All their lives were changed because of this one event.
An event that would change the lives of so many as time moved forward.

He didn't come as a grown man
A baby that had to be innocent and helpless, who had to have parenting and care.  There isn't a more humbling state.
πŸ“– and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them. Luke 2:7

He didn't come as a king as many of the religious leaders believed he would.
He came in the lowliest and humblest of situations so mankind would know that He understood their situation,
πŸ“– Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst. 1 Timothy 1:15

πŸ“–  But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8
that even though He was God, He would grow up and live like the "common man".  Also, that it couldn't be said "He accomplished this" or "was able to do that" because of His wealth or status. All Jesus did and accomplished He attributed to His heavenly Father.
πŸ“–  For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me.  John 6:38

He didn't come as a Spirit; He was flesh and bone and blood. He could scrape a knee, hit a finger with a hammer, have dusty feet and become tired and hungry. Be sad, and angry and happy and He could love.
πŸ“–    When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in spirit and troubled. “Where have you laid him?” he asked. “Come and see, Lord,” they replied.  Jesus wept.  John 11:33-35

πŸ“–  On reaching Jerusalem, Jesus entered the temple courts and began driving out those who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves, and would not allow anyone to carry merchandise through the temple courts. And as he taught them, he said, “Is it not written: ‘My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations’? But you have made it ‘a den of robbers. Mark 11:15-17

πŸ“– Jacob’s well was there, and Jesus, tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the well. It was about noon. John 4:6

πŸ“–   Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus.   John 11:5

And have His flesh suffer and bleed
πŸ“– But he was pierced for our transgressions,
    he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
and by his wounds we are healed. Isaiah 53:5

and die, so that we might be saved
πŸ“– “He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.” 2 Peter 2:24

He didn't come as a woman. Because in the time in which He did arrive a woman wouldn't have been able to have to social freedoms that He had, to stand in front of crowds and speak and be heard, to even go into the inner sanctuary of the temples. But one thing to note, Jesus didn't not see or treat women as lesser than or property, as was the norm of that day.
πŸ“– When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Will you give me a drink?”  (His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.) The Samaritan woman said to him, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?” (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.) John 4:8-9
πŸ“– She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”  “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:39-42

God's plan was...IS a perfect plan, perfect timing.
We can be sure that we are here, in this time, in this place for a purpose and a reason.  God has a plan for our 2024!
We can rest in that for the new year. We may have resolutions and goals and lists....But God and His plan for us should be foremost.
That plan includes spending time with Him,
πŸ™in communication with Him (not just "wish list" prayers, but in gratitude and worship)

πŸ“™ in His Word reading the Bible daily.

πŸ‘Serving....showing others what it means to be a follower of Jesus, extending His love to ALL those we meet.
The rest of our year will go as He plans IF we focus our direction toward Him!
We know what He desires of us

πŸ“– He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.
And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God. Micah 6:8

πŸ“– Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. Mathew 22:37-39

And we trust His timing
πŸ“– For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11

And no matter what 2024 brings HE promises...

πŸ“– and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:20

And look, it ended up being relevant to New Year!

πŸ™I pray that you Trust in God's timing this year, that you seek Him each day, you feel His love always and share it with those you meet. I pray for More in 2024!♥️
