But A Spark

I have enjoyed watching the series Call the Midwife on PBS. It is based on the memoirs of Jennifer Worth recounting her time as a midwife in the Docklands of London in the 1950s and 60s. They lived with and worked with the nuns of of St Raymond Nonnatus.

One of the nuns, Sister Monica Joan, was quoted as saying;

"I am but a spark in the divine flame"

I found that a great...even profound statement, and of course it "sparked" my brain😉

A humble statement. Recognizing that we are a small part of something bigger....

even more we wouldn't exist without the "devine flame".

📖 Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. Genesis 2:7

Just as a spark wouldn't exist without the fire...we would not without our God

📖 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing John 15:5

A spark burns bright briefly, as we do in the frame of eternity. 

📖   You don't even know what your life tomorrow will be! You are like a puff of smoke, which appears for a moment and then disappears. James 4:14 (Good News Translation)

And flies upward....as we should be striving up... towards heaven 

📖 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God Colossians 3:1

A spark can light something else...if burning hot enough and bright enough, if it carries enough of the source with it.

As with us...if we are not completely consumed and alight by our "Source " we will not have the power to ignite others around us.
