Our message this past Sunday at church (thank you Terry Goodrich) was from Matthew 5 and what is known as the Beatitudes.
However, I looked at the word differently,
These should BE our ATTITUDE....
“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
{Those humble in spirit, those with the attitude of Christ}
πDo nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Philippians 2:3-5
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn,
{those who grieve not only over loss, but over injustice, inhumanity}
π Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. . Romans 12:14-15
πPraise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ. 1 Corinthians 1:3-5
for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
{those who are gentle, non confrontational}
π Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited. Romans 12:16
for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
{those who seek the Bread of Life and the Living Water}
πJesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” John 4:13-14
π Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. John 6:35
for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful,
{those who treat others, not as they might deserve, but as Christ would}
πBless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. ... 17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone Romans 12:14 +17
for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
{those whose motives are pure, as a child, aligned with Christ's}
π And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 18:3-4
for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
{those who choose love over enmity, compassion over criticism, stillness over strife}
π If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Romans 12:18
for they will be called children of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
{Those who are vulnerable in their service for the Lord, regardless of personal comfort or even safety}
π Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. On the contrary:
“If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.
In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head."
Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Romans 12:19-21
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
“Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.
π “Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven. Matthew 10:32-33
Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
π Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed. If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. If you suffer, it should not be as a murderer or thief or any other kind of criminal, or even as a meddler. However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name. For it is time for judgment to begin with God’s household; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not obey the gospel of God? And,
“If it is hard for the righteous to be saved,
what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?”
So then, those who suffer according to God’s will should commit themselves to their faithful Creator and continue to do good. 1 Peter 4:12-19
what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?”
So then, those who suffer according to God’s will should commit themselves to their faithful Creator and continue to do good. 1 Peter 4:12-19
πI pray that Christ's commands and attitudes can BE our ATTITUDES. That we continue to do good and serve Him❤️
