 A Hankie Kind of Prayer; A Hankie Kind of Answer.

I saw a clip of an interview with Corrie Ten Boom on YouTube the other day...

Who would think to pray for a hankie? We might think..."pray to be removed from that situation", "pray for bigger,  better things."
And I am sure in all their prayers they did, but a hankie?  
To me this shows we can, and maybe even should, pray for the little, even inconsequential things.
πŸ“– Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Philippians 4:6

Now, here is the other thing, if God answers with a hankie, are we grateful?  Or do we look at it and say, "but I needed the bigger things Lord. How can the small scrap of inconsequential stuff be helpful?"
Nothing is insignificant to God.
πŸ“–  Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care.  And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. Matthew 10:29-31
Nothing is lost on Him...and certainly nothing He does is small!
πŸ“– Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, Ephesians 3:20
He can use anything for His purpose and His glory.
But do we?
πŸ“– Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Phillipians 4:4
It was important enough to repeat. 

Remember God knows our circumstances and He grieves with us, 
πŸ“– The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them;
    he delivers them from all their troubles.
18 The Lord is close to the brokenhearted
    and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Psalm 34:17-18
But He also can bring good in the circumstances if we look for them, instead of focusing on the things that are awful and wrong and bad....we look for the good 
Like a small hankie given as a gift in the middle of a concentration camp.  Or the fleas...(eatch this amazing story)

We don't pray for fleas, but we pray that God use our circumstances, show us what we are to do for Him in the midst of our trials.
πŸ“– “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. John 16:33


It may be a hankie that we pray for,
Should we ask for any more?
We pray God opens our eyes to see 
what He has for us beyond the fleas. 

πŸ™πŸΌ Lord God, help us to know we can pray in all circumstances, trusting You can use any situation to bring about Your plan. Help us to be grateful to just be a part of it!♥️

Worth Repeating

πŸ’˜Valentine's Day.....to some it means showing the one they love how special they are, giving your Love flowers, chocolates, jewelry etc
πŸ’™Valentine's Day....to others it means disappointment, that their Love forgets, or doesn't give what all the media and stores are telling them they should be receiving IF they were really loved.
πŸ’”Valentine's Day ....for some it means pain, heartache, a reminder that their Love is no longer with them, whether the individual or the relationship has died. Either way it is a painful reminder of what they have lost.

To me I want all the red, and pink, the hearts and the rest are to remind me.....that I have been given the greatest Valentine ever!  
πŸ“– For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.  John 3:16
That is LOVE
THIS is love!
πŸ“– This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 1 John 4:10

But because we are given such an amazing Valentine, we are to pass it on to others.
πŸ“– Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 1 John 4:11

IF we love one another...His love is complete IN US
πŸ“–  No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. 1 John 4:12

See, our love cannot be complete unless we pass on God's love to others. That doesn't mean romantic love, but genuine love, caring about an individual, beyond their choices, their beliefs.

 πŸ“– This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. 1 John 3:16-18 

We live out God's commands as evidence of our love for Him, which means loving all.
πŸ“– We love because he first loved us. Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister. 1 John 4:19-21

It is easy to love those being kind to us, those who agree with us, believe what we believe, worship how we worship, but what about the many others?

πŸ“– “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full.  But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. Luke 6:32-36

IF we can love all others as Christ loves us we will be showing the world God's love....and giving those we meet the best Valentine ever!

As It Is Written

 Last week I wrote (rewrote) history  (Scripture). Sort of!  I intended it to be fiction and a fun exercise in thinking about how our faith being viewed by others could have an impact. 
But remember, that was fiction,  I would not want anyone to come across it and assume it was factual. What WAS factual was the Scripture references. 
THAT is what is important to take away. 

πŸ“–  All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.    2 Timothy 3:16-17

Throughout the ages there have been those who have tried to rewrite Scripture to fit their own agenda and narrative.
πŸ“– Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them. Matthew 7:15-20

In the book of Luke Jesus was reading Scripture and those in his home town were pleased. Until He began to explain...He came as a fulfillment of that very Scripture.. Here He was THE living breathing Scripture.  He also explained that in scripture/history....God cared for all people, not JUST the chosen, or the "religious" and then they became incensed. 
πŸ“–    Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside.  He was teaching in their synagogues, and everyone praised him. He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. He stood up to read,  and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written:  

The Spirit of the Lord is on me,

    because he has anointed me
    to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
    and recovery of sight for the blind,
to set the oppressed free,
 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor."

Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him.  He began by saying to them, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his lips. “Isn’t this Joseph’s son?” they asked. Jesus said to them, “Surely you will quote this proverb to me: ‘Physician, heal yourself!’ And you will tell me, ‘Do here in your hometown what we have heard that you did in Capernaum.’”  “Truly I tell you,” he continued, “no prophet is accepted in his hometown. I assure you that there were many widows in Israel in Elijah’s time, when the sky was shut for three and a half years and there was a severe famine throughout the land. Yet Elijah was not sent to any of them, but to a widow in Zarephath in the region of Sidon. And there were many in Israel with leprosy in the time of Elisha the prophet, yet not one of them was cleansed—only Naaman the Syrian.”  All the people in the synagogue were furious when they heard this. They got up, drove him out of the town, and took him to the brow of the hill on which the town was built, in order to throw him off the cliff.  But he walked right through the crowd and went on his way. Luke 4:14-30

Jesus was explaining the truth of the Scriptures and it didn't match with how they had been teaching them, how they wanted them to be.
Jesus IS the TRUTH.
πŸ“–  Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6

He wasn't changing or redirecting Scripture to fit His purpose. His purpose is to show us the truth. 
πŸ“–  For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me.  John 6:38

The truth in God's word. 
πŸ“– Jesus answered, It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. Matthew 4:4

We are to read it as God wants, to hear what He intends for us. The amazing thing about the Word is that it "speaks" to us. Not by being different every time we read it, but by changing us, making us more aware, more inline with what He wants.
πŸ“–   And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, Philippians 1:9-10

WE are different every time we read it!
It is God's conversation with us. We want to "hear" it as He intends, not as we want it to be.

πŸ™πŸΌπŸ“– For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every famil in heaven and on earth derives its name.  I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being,  so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love,  may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.  Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Potiphar's Wife...the Rest Of the Story

 In our Ladies Bible Study book, Women of the Bible, we cover fifty-two different women from the Scriptures. This past week was Potiphar's Wife. An important figure in the story of Joseph's life. However, we find it significant that she doesn't warrant a name. 
If you aren't familiar with her part in Joseph's story;
πŸ“– Now Joseph had been taken down to Egypt. Potiphar, an Egyptian who was one of Pharaoh’s officials, the captain of the guard, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had taken him there. The Lord was with Joseph so that he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master. When his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord gave him success in everything he did, Joseph found favor in his eyes and became his attendant. Potiphar put him in charge of his household, and he entrusted to his care everything he owned. From the time he put him in charge of his household and of all that he owned, the Lord blessed the household of the Egyptian because of Joseph. The blessing of the Lord was on everything Potiphar had, both in the house and in the field. So Potiphar left everything he had in Joseph’s care; with Joseph in charge, he did not concern himself with anything except the food he ate.Now Joseph was well-built and handsome, and after a while his master’s wife took notice of Joseph and said, “Come to bed with me!” But he refused. “With me in charge,” he told her, “my master does not concern himself with anything in the house; everything he owns he has entrusted to my care. No one is greater in this house than I am. My master has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?”  And though she spoke to Joseph day after day, he refused to go to bed with her or even be with her. Genesis 39:1-10

The last part of our study suggested that we "write the rest of her story", how we think her life would have turned out, because she isn't mentioned anymore in Scripture after she had Joseph sent off to prison. 
So....off goes my brain!! And here it is!
πŸ“š Her name was Matilda. She was a spoiled, rich girl who was bored. Potiphar was a wealthy,  important, prominent member of Pharaoh’s ⁷inner court, he was captain of the guard.
πŸ“–  Now Joseph had been taken down to Egypt. Potiphar, an Egyptian who was one of Pharaoh’s officials, the captain of the guard, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had taken him there. v 1
This handsome young man had worked his way up the ranks of the slaves and servants in record time. Matilda was angry that Potiphar was away all the time, so to spite him she threw herself at Joseph. And much to her spoiled self's surprise he rejected her!! The nerve of him!
πŸ“–No one is greater in this house than I am. My master has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God? Genesis 39

 Now she was angry and had a challenge and she harrassed him day after day.
πŸ“– 10 And though she spoke to Joseph day after day, he refused to go to bed with her or even be with her.
Finally, she had had enough of his rejection and being made a fool of.  When he ran away from her and left his cloak behind she realized she had the perfect opportunity to make him pay...so she cried rape!
πŸ“– 13 When she saw that he had left his cloak in her hand and had run out of the house, 14 she called her household servants. “Look,” she said to them, “this Hebrew has been brought to us to make sport of us! He came in here to sleep with me, but I screamed. 15 When he heard me scream for help, he left his cloak beside me and ran out of the house.”16 She kept his cloak beside her until his master came home. 17 Then she told him this story: “That Hebrew slave you brought us came to me to make sport of me. 18 But as soon as I screamed for help, he left his cloak beside me and ran out of the house.”19 When his master heard the story his wife told him, saying, “This is how your slave treated me,” he burned with anger. 20 Joseph’s master took him and put him in prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were confined Genesis 39
Potiphar, though Joseph had become a very impressive and important part of his household, believed her immediately and he was angry that this man that he had treated so fairly had wronged him in this way. Matilda was very satisfied she had fooled everyone. Because of his anger and to keep his wife happy Potiphar threw Joseph into prison. 
 The adage "happy wife, happy life" might have started here! 
So Joseph was thrown into prison! Now, because this story is about Matilda, we will fast forward several years, while Joseph remaind in prison continuing to be faithful to God and a servant to all. 
Matilda brooded and pouted and was bored...but one thing kept nagging in the back of her mind.
πŸ“– How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?
She wondered what kind of faith causes a man to risk everything and refuse his bosses wife?! A beautiful, desirable woman!? What kind of God could elicit such devotion.
She sometimes felt badly that she had said what she did...and had him thrown into prison..."but at least he wasn't executed right?!", she would tell herself. 
She knew Potiphar was also wondering about the punishment of such a good and loyal servant. One who had worked hard for the household, and this God that Joseph worshiped seemed to have blessed Joseph so much so the blessings poured out to the entire household and family. 
.πŸ“–From the time he put him in charge of his household and of all that he owned, the Lord blessed the household of the Egyptian because of Joseph. The blessing of the Lord was on everything Potiphar had, both in the house and in the field. 

Then news spread around the kingdom that Pharoah was being troubled by dreams and a man from the dungeons could interpret them.
 πŸ“– Now a young Hebrew was there with us, a servant of the captain of the guard. We told him our dreams, and he interpreted them for us, giving each man the interpretation of his dream. And things turned out exactly as he interpreted them to us: I was restored to my position, and the other man was impaled.” So Pharaoh sent for Joseph, and he was quickly brought from the dungeon. When he had shaved and changed his clothes, he came before Pharaoh.Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I had a dream, and no one can interpret it. But I have heard it said of you that when you hear a dream you can interpret it.”  Genesis 39:12-15
Could it be?! It was Joseph! But now he worked for Pharoah and was called by another name!
πŸ“– So Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I hereby put you in charge of the whole land of Egypt.”  Then Pharaoh took his signet ring from his finger and put it on Joseph’s finger. He dressed him in robes of fine linen and put a gold chain around his neck.  He had him ride in a chariot as his second-in-command, and people shouted before him, “Make way!” Thus he put him in charge of the whole land of Egypt. Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I am Pharaoh, but without your word no one will lift hand or foot in all Egypt.” Pharaoh gave Joseph the name Zaphenath-Paneah and gave him Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest of On, to be his wife. And Joseph went throughout the land of Egypt. Genesis 41:41-45
The stories would come in of how this man had a plan to save Egypt from terrible drought and famine.
Everyone in the land went before him and his staff to get their portions of food. 
πŸ“–  55 When all Egypt began to feel the famine, the people cried to Pharaoh for food. Then Pharaoh told all the Egyptians, “Go to Joseph and do what he tells you.”56 When the famine had spread over the whole country, Joseph opened all the storehouses and sold grain to the Egyptians, for the famine was severe throughout Egypt. 57 And all the world came to Egypt to buy grain from Joseph, because the famine was severe everywhere.
Potiphars 🏠 house was no exception. And though servants went and stood in line, Potiphar and Matilda went and viewed the proceedings with the rest of the Egyptian court, as he was a still captain of the guard.
It became particularly interesting when people from Joseph's homeland were coming for their portions of grains. 
One family became of particular interest to watch. 
πŸ“– Now Joseph was the governor of the land, the person who sold grain to all its people. So when Joseph’s brothers arrived, they bowed down to him with their faces to the ground. As soon as Joseph saw his brothers, he recognized them, but he pretended to be a stranger and spoke harshly to them. “Where do you come from?” he asked.“From the land of Canaan,” they replied, “to buy food.” Genesis 42

Matilda heard that it was Joseph's brothers, and if she remembered correctly, they were reason he was enslaved in the first place."This should be interesting." She knew what she had done when rejected and made to feel foolish. This man had served years as a slave and had the power to have these men, brothers or not, carted off to some dungeon like where he had been held!
But as the days go by she continued to go to the distribution center to watch this unfold. 
And for a moment it looked as if Joseph was going to get his revenge. She almost was feeling sorry for these men....strange...
But then Joseph forgave them, told them who he was and how he was able to save them from the famine of the land.
πŸ“– Then Joseph could not restrain himself before all those who stood by him, and he cried out, “Make everyone go out from me!” So no one stood with him while Joseph made himself known to his brothers. And he wept aloud, and the Egyptians and the house of Pharaoh heard it. Genesis 45:1-2

Joseph had worked so hard for Pharoah but had remained faithful to God, Pharoah rewarded Joseph by rewarding Joseph’s whole family. 

πŸ“–Now the report of it was heard in Pharaoh’s house, saying, “Joseph’s brothers have come.” So it pleased Pharaoh and his servants well. And Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Say to your brothers, ‘Do this: Load your animals and depart; go to the land of Canaan. Bring your father and your households and come to me; I will give you the best of the land of Egypt, and you will eat the [c]fat of the land. Now you are commanded—do this: Take carts out of the land of Egypt for your little ones and your wives; bring your father and come.⁷⁷ Also do not be concerned about your goods, for the best of all the land of Egypt is yours.’ ” Genesis 45:16-20

Matilda was shocked, but felt a relief she wasn't sure of. ..where was this coming from? The forgiveness that Joseph had for his brothers seemed to extend to all those who had wronged Joseph throughout his life. Hadn't his plan to save Egypt extended to her and her family?
Matilda was so overwhelmed by this thought that she wanted forgiveness from this God for what she had done to Joseph as well. 
And in that moment she felt it, she received it and her life wouldn't ever be the same. 

Now, remember, this is mostly fiction. The Scripture parts are real. But Matilda and what happened to her are just speculation and my need for a happy ending!  Or.....is it😘
Our God is an amazing God who can do anything.....

πŸ™πŸΌLord, though we do not know how the rest of Potiphar's wife's life played out You do. What is important is how we choose to go through our lives. Lord, give us empathy and compassion for all those around us. Help us to influence others by Your love, grace, and mercy, so that they may see You and choose to follow. ♥️

Overflow

 Last week I included the link to a song; The God I Know.
This week that song has me going in another direction. 
Telling others about the God I know....do I take the opportunity to do that? How do I do that?

We known that we are commissioned to.
πŸ“–  Then Jesus came to them and said, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.  Matthew 28:18-20

But I am not a missionary, nor a minister, am I? 

I believe that we all possess the ability and opportunities to "tell" others even if it isn't with our formal words.
Our reactions teach
Our actions minister
Our love tells 

How we react in unfavorable circumstances teaches others who are watching what it means to have the peace of Christ dwelling within us. 
πŸ“–  Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. Hebrews 12:14

πŸ“– Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone.  If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Romans 12:17-18


What we do for others, especially those "less desirable", less fortunate, speaks to Who we serve.

πŸ“– Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?  When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’  Matthew 25:37-40

Hands Up

 I am not sure what happened! It was Monday and I knew I needed to blog, then it was Wednesday and I knew I had better get it posted and now it is Friday!?!?
Makes me want to throw my hands up in exasperation that the week got away from me. 
How often do we want to throw up our hands; in exasperation, desperation, in surrender, giving up?
I had a thought;
That is exactly the posture we should have.
Throwing our hands up reaching toward our God. Arms open releasing everything to Him.
Relinquishing any idea that we have control over circumstances. 
If we throw our hands up...we can't hold onto those things we have tried to wrap our arms around, the things we have been trying to hold onto...

πŸ“– casting all your cares on him, because he cares about you.  1 Peter 5:7 (CSB)

πŸ“–  Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. Colossians 3:1-2


πŸ“– if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.  2 Chronicles 7:14

πŸ™πŸΌ Lord, I throw my hands up now, releasing anything I am trying to hold on to that is getting in the way of us...of me loving You and serving You. I throw my hands up in praise and worship! ♥️

What's the Plan?!

What does tomorrow hold?
How to plan for tomorrow? 
We can not know what tomorrow holds. 
We CAN know that God knows.

πŸ“– Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.  Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” As it is, you boast in your arrogant schemes. All such boasting is evil.  If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them. James 4:13-17

We can also know that God holds the plans. 
πŸ“–  For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11

We know that God’s plan is far better than our own.
πŸ“–For my thoughts are not your thoughts, ther are your ways my ways,” declaresthe LordAs the heavens are higher than the earth,    so are my ways higher than your ways  and my thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:8-9

 So how should we plan for our tomorrow?
God has placed us in the time and place that we are. Our "plan" should be to love God with all our heart mind soul and strength.

πŸ“– Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Romans 12:1

Our only plan should be in what ever we are doing, what ever circumstances we are in we plan to love and praise God in all we do
πŸ“– And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:23

IF we give over all we do to the Lord, our plans will be His plans!
πŸ“– Commit to the Lord whatever you do,
    and he will establish your plans. Proverbs 16:3
